What to Consider When Buying a Steel Door
WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A STEEL DOOR?
Not every steel door can offer you the security and durability you want. If you want to have a steel door that will protect you under all conditions, provide high security and last for many years, there are some important points you should pay attention to.
1. You will make the decision to buy a steel door once or twice in your life. Therefore, you should do very good research and buy a steel door that will make you feel safe for many years.
2. Consult the locksmith closest to you. Locksmiths are the technical experts of steel doors and they have the knowledge and experience to guide you in buying the right door.
3. Not every steel door is a real steel door! If you want to experience the confidence that a real steel door will offer you; the security of the door you will buy must be tested and approved by independent organizations. It is especially beneficial to prefer brands with the “EUROPEAN UNION ANTI-THEFT SECURITY CERTIFICATE”. In brands that do not offer an EU certificate, it is important for your safety to look for at least the TSE certificate.
Check the EN 1627 EU burglar resistance certificate and certificate classes for the steel door brand you will buy.
4. Remember that every steel door opens; what matters is how long it takes to open. Steel doors with the “EUROPEAN UNION ANTI-THEFT SECURITY CERTIFICATE” are classified as class1, class2, class3, class4, class5, class6. Class1 is the easiest to open, and class6 is the hardest to open, respectively. Be sure to ask for such test documents for the steel door you will buy. Remember that the security of doors that do not offer these documents is questionable.
5. In the steel door you will buy, the gap between the door and the frame should not be more than 4-5 mm. If the gap is greater, it will be easier to open the door with a lever. Remember that this small detail will provide you with great security.
6. The solidity of the lock used in a steel door is significant if the area where the lock will sit is also solid. For example, a building with a solid foundation is at risk of collapsing at the slightest tremor, no matter how durable the floors to be climbed are. The foundation of a steel door is the area where the lock will sit. Steel doors that do not provide a sufficiently durable area for the lock are easily opened even if the most durable lock is used. For this reason, the inaccessibility of the area where the key enters should be ensured against theft.
There is a rosette system that protects this area in steel doors. This rosette system should be strong enough not to be removed with a chisel.
7. The door hinge should be adjustable. Doors with this feature can be easily adjusted and restored to their former state against any kind of flexing of the building they are in and the settlement of the ground. Steel doors with welded fixed hinges do not have this feature.
8. The closing quality of the steel door you will buy shows the real quality of the door. Your steel door, which you will use for years, should close easily and silently even if you push it with the tip of your finger. The quality of the lock reception system offers you this convenience. You will both be comfortable and safer.
9. Look for a double sealing system on your steel door. Steel doors with this system do not only prevent thieves; they also prevent sound, heat, cold, dust and insects from entering. They provide you with a truly perfect insulation and provide you with comfort.
10. The door frame should not flex. Ask the company you will buy from for information that will satisfy you about this flexing.
11. The steel door should be installed with concrete filling. The cost of concrete filling is more expensive than polyurethane filling and its installation is difficult, but the security it offers is at a high level. The concrete and the door frame are integrated, thus preventing the door frame from flexing.
12. If you are going to buy a steel door that will come into direct contact with the exterior, you can prefer those with aluminum and glass coating. Aluminum and glass are the most suitable coating materials for the exterior; they are not affected by rain, corrosion and sunlight. They are also long-lasting and add prestige to your home with their aesthetic appearance.
13. Buy your steel door from manufacturing companies that have been in this business for many years and have a corporate structure or from authorized dealers of these companies. Cheap steel doors made in underground workshops can threaten your security.
14. If you think that your taste or fashion will change over time or that you will get bored of seeing the same door, make sure that the steel door you will buy is modular. The outer coatings of modular steel doors can be changed at any time, so you can change the appearance of the door without changing it completely; without causing any damage to your home.
15. Make sure that the company you buy the steel door from provides full and problem-free after-sales support.
16. Do not think that all steel doors are safe, care about it being a high-security door.
17. Remember that a good steel door will add not only security to your home, but also aesthetics, value and prestige. It is a fact that visuality is also important in addition to security. The first visible place of your home is your exterior door and the appearance of your exterior door is a character.
